Hello and welcome! You’ve just made a terrible decision, but welcome anyway.
Just kidding, we’re not all that bad. What you’ve stumbled upon is our ranking of the Assassin’s Creed franchise.
Note: We have not played AC: Rogue so that will not be included in this list. Also, we are still playing Odyssey, so we will update the list once we’re ready to reveal our thoughts. Also the Chronicles games will not be included as we’re ranking the mainline games.
Phew, not that that’s done, let’s get to our ranking.
7. Assassin’s Creed: Unity
Oof. Unity was a hard pill to swallow. While we believe the game certainly isn’t as bad as many people say it is, it was certainly the least impressive of the series. The multiplayer aspect was a neat addition, and the next gen graphics, at the time, were incredible. Unfortunately the cast of characters here are just plain boring. That along with the bugs that are still present rank this at our lowest number.
6. Assassin’s Creed
Assassin’s Creed will always hold a special place in our hearts. It was unlike anything we had ever seen before. The graphics and general physics of the game were stellar for the time, but this was a first entry. It’s rare for a game to get it completely right the first time. Altair could have been more compelling, and the game play lacked depth.
5. Assassin’s Creed III
This game was actually a little bit of a disappointment to us. After the wild success of Assassin’s Creed II, the introduction of the Revolutionary War seemed like it would be fantastic. Unfortunately the game didn’t live up to the hype. Connor was a bit shallow as a character, and we felt as though the setting didn’t allow for the epic parkour that is typical of the franchise.
4. Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate
We really enjoyed Syndicate, and thought it was one of the more under rated titles in 2015. The game offered a fresh take on the series with the choice of either Jacob or Evie. Unfortunately the game came at the end of Ubisoft’s first go around, and fans(including us) were looking for more from the franchise. It felt samey as the previous entries, with a new skin laid over the setting and characters.
3. Assassin’s Creed II(Brotherhood, Revelations)
The story, alone, in Assassin’s Creed II is undeniably one of the best in the franchise. Ezio really put the franchise on the map, after the less than stellar debut title in the franchise. The game was still working out some of it’s initial kinks, or else this very well could have been number 1 in our list.
2. Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag
How can you not love pirates? Edward Kenway was our personal favorite Assassin. His happy-go lucky attitude and general outlook on life made him and his story extremely charming. The pirate aesthetic lent a lot as well, as we’re suckers for anything with an eye patch.
1. Assassin’s Creed: Origins
Origins ranked as one of our favorite games of 2017. From start to finish, Bayek’s story captivated us and made us truly care for him and his quest for justice. The game play overhaul that Ubisoft implemented, especially to the combat really made the game feel fresh and kept us coming back for more.
So that’s it! That’s where we believe the games rank.
Where will Odyssey rank? Stay tuned for our review later this week, and also check back here as we update our rankings to reflect that title.
